Novartis to cut 280+ jobs in New Jersey – Endpoints News

Novartis is ringing in the new year with more job cuts, according to New Jersey state documents.
The pharma giant is axing 284 jobs in East Hanover, a township about 24 miles away from New York City. The cuts, which span Novartis Services, Novartis Pharmaceuticals and Novartis Corporation, take effect on Jan. 28, according to a notice posted last month in New Jersey’s state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) system.
A range of positions will be affected, according to a spokesperson, including: “roles in the former Pharmaceuticals and Oncology divisions, certain functions of Global Drug Development, and certain business units that were part of Customer Technology Solutions, as well as in Communications & Engagement, Ethics Risk & Compliance, Finance, Global Security, Legal, Public Affairs, and People & Organization.”
CEO Vas Narasimhan is on a mission to make Novartis a top-five player in the US by 2027. Earlier this year, he revealed those plans would involve thousands of job cuts, combining the oncology and pharma units and finally deciding to spin off generics unit Sandoz. A spokesperson told Endpoints earlier this year that about 8,000 of 108,000 roles were on the line.
The company announced just last month that the closure of a site in Libertyville, IL would leave about 275 jobs on the chopping block, and in October said it would cut around 400 jobs at its Dublin campus by the end of 2024.
Last year, Novartis told the New Jersey Daily Record that it sold off 62 acres of its former 202-acre campus in East Hanover, as it created a “more flexible workplace design” that requires “fewer buildings to accommodate our employees’ workspaces.”
“We recognize the impact these changes have on our people. The company is offering support for impacted associates, including outplacement services and career counseling, as well as support finding new roles within the company,” the spokesperson said on Monday.
