Romm, who served as Cityblock Health’s first CEO and is currently a member of the board of directors, is a tech-enabled healthcare provider with a focus on scalable solutions for underserved and marginalized populations. He worked as the company’s CEO for five years, growing it into a market leader that is revolutionizing the way health care is provided to neglected areas. Romm adds his extensive startup experience and commitment to democratizing access to high-quality, person-centered healthcare to Real’s Board of Directors.
Iyah is a creative leader who has found and filled gaps in our healthcare system. He will be helpful to us as we continue to develop a new mental health platform that is available to everyone, said Real Founder & CEO Ariela Safira. “His experience as a successful entrepreneur, as an expert practitioner in value-based health care delivery, and as a lived experience as a person grappling with his mental health will help us.
“Iyah has the qualifications, practical knowledge, and attitude to advance Real. His efforts to enhance the provision of healthcare and dedication to improving mental health will be crucial to Real when we relaunch the service. We are appreciative of Iyah’s leadership and are eager to scale this idea, said Nicole Quinn, general partner at Lightspeed.
Romm expressed his admiration for Ariela’s decision to give people control over their mental health journeys by saying, “I have been impressed with the direction that Ariela has taken Real.” “I see a chance to develop a brand-new, constantly accessible system of mental health treatment that caters to everyone’s requirements. I’m eager to support the organization and its outstanding team in achieving this important objective.
Romm served as Chief Transformation Officer for Commonwealth Care Alliance before founding Cityblock, where he assisted in managing more than $1 billion in premiums and providing care for thousands of Medicaid and Medicare customers. He was a key member of the founding leadership teams of the Health Policy Commission and the Commonwealth’s Department of Public Health, and he made a substantial contribution to Massachusetts’ attempts to reform the healthcare system.
Real’s service was recently rebuilt, and the current app shows the company’s new direction as it now offers a monthly membership model. To help members feel seen and heard in their own experiences, Real offers therapist-created tools and events that are available on demand along with fascinating community stories. Real is powered by an algorithm that customizes the user experience to suit the individual requirements of each member. No matter where they are in their mental health journey, Real’s care supports members in overcoming daily obstacles and avoiding crises.
