Hendricks Regional Health is looking internally to choose its next leader.
Dr. Michelle Fenoughty, a 20-year employee of the Danville-based health system, has been chosen president and CEO by the Hendricks Regional Health Board of Trustees.
Fenoughty will take over as Hendricks’ first female president on July 10.
“The Board believes that Dr. Fenoughty’s wealth of knowledge and experience will help Hendricks position itself for success in the coming years,” said Board Chair Erin Engels in a statement. “Her exceptional work with the medical staff, as well as her capabilities in understanding the current and future challenges of the health care industry, made her a highly desirable candidate.”
The board selected Fenoughty following a search effort that considered more than 40 candidates. Fenoughty will be the system’s fifth leader in its 61-year history.
She succeeds Kevin Speer, who was elected president in 2012 and resigned in March to become president of Ascension St. Vincent Indiana.
“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to lead a place and a group of people that have meant so much to me for the last 21 years,” Fenoughty said in a statement. “Hendricks truly feels like a second home to me.” We will enhance health care in west central Indiana and chart our course forward with boldness, collaboration, and innovation as our guiding principles, with a skilled, compassionate medical staff and an experienced, focused leadership team in place.”
Fenoughty began her career with Hendricks as an OB-GYN at Westside Physicians for Women in 2002. From 2004 to 2011, she chaired an OB/Pediatrics committee; from 2011 to 2015, she was chief of staff; and in 2015, she was named senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer.
Fenoughty is credited by Hendricks officials for her efforts in implementing an electronic medical record system, her participation in responding to the coronavirus outbreak, and her driving push to engage with the Mayo Clinic Care Network.
The incoming CEO earned her medical degree from Southern Illinois University and her OB-GYN residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis. She also holds an MBA from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
