Choi Ju-hui Appointed CEO of TVing, First Female Head in Korean Streaming Sector – Variety

[ad_1]

Following the retirement of CEO Jay Yang, Korea’s major entertainment business, CJ ENM, has chosen Choi Ju-hui as CEO of the TVing streaming service which it has a controlling share. Choi is the first female CEO of a Korean OTT platform company.

Choi’s appointment comes on the heels of the merger of TVing and Seezn, a smaller streamer previously controlled by local telco behemoth KT Corp. The deal is intended to save money on marketing and client acquisition by leveraging KT’s 14 million subscriber network.

Choi has extensive leadership experience in the IT business. She worked with two Korean e-commerce startups, W Concept and Trenbe, a luxury products online retail firm. Before these positions, Choi worked for the Boston Consulting Group and Walt Disney Korea, where she managed the Asian business strategy at the time Disney+ was introduced in Korea.
CJ ENM also selected Kim Ji-won as the new CEO of Mnet Plus Business, a K-pop culture site founded last year that features Mnet Music and KCON originals as well as fan-artist interactions. Kim has previously worked with Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and NCSOFT.

“The announcement of new leadership is consistent with CJ ENM’s vision of becoming a global IP powerhouse.” “We are expanding our focus to strengthen our platform business to enhance competitiveness, in addition to securing quality IPs backed by solid production capabilities,” said a company representative.

Tving, which currently represents Paramount+ in Korea, will collaborate with the American studio on new projects such as the action thriller “A Bloody Lucky Day” and the period drama “Queen Woo.”
