Former Amedisys CEO Chris Gerard Named Next Leader Of TheKey.

Chris Gerard, the former CEO and COO of Amedisys Inc. (Nasdaq: AMED) has relocated. He will be the future CEO of TheKey, a nationwide home care company.
“I’m excited to announce that I’m starting a new job as Chief Executive Officer at TheKey!” Monday, Gerard posted on LinkedIn.
Based in Delray Beach, Florida TheKey offers home care, memory care, and specialized care services in over 100 cities in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Over 100,000 seniors are cared for by its 10,000 carers.
In 2002, the company was created in Silicon Valley. According to the corporate website, it has grown from a single-site supplier to a $750 million organization. It was previously known as Home Care Assistance until being rebranded as TheKey at the start of 2022.
Tad Smith was CEO from November 2020 to this June.
From 2016 to 2022, Gerard was the COO of Amedisys, one of the leading home health providers in the country. He was named CEO when former CEO Paul Kusserow departed.
His tenure as CEO, however, was brief. Gerard left the company in November 2022 after taking control in April 2022 and failing to fulfill earnings forecasts. Kusserow reclaimed the CEO position at Amedisys until being replaced by Richard Ashworth.
While Amedisys is primarily a home health and hospice service, it did have a substantial personal care division during Gerard’s time there. HouseWorks later acquired Amedisys’ private care segment.
Gerard’s hire has yet to be officially announced by TheKey.
Gerard sat down with Home Health Care News as CEO of Amedisys to discuss how technology and automation could promote crucial efficiency in home-based care.
He also intended to improve employee perk packages.
“We took a hard look at our benefits,” Gerard remarked. “And there are a lot of supplemental things we can do, like fertility coverage, that the employees want.” Longer bereavement periods, parental leave, and similar things. They’re asking for all these things, and we’re looking into them.”
Even though TheKey provides both Medicare-certified home health care and private-pay home care, turnover is the main worry for most business owners in both sectors.
