Huge Reorganization at Tata Neu: 20 New Executives Assume Positions
Tata Digital, the tech arm of Tata Group, has announced a significant reshuffle of its senior leadership team amidst a period of executive turnover. This strategic overhaul comes just three months after Naveen Tahilyani stepped in as the new CEO, replacing Pratik Pal.
Hardeep Singh Guru has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), while Gaurav Motani takes the helm as the new Chief Product Officer (CPO). This shakeup aims to streamline the leadership structure and enhance the company’s focus on agility and business objectives.
In addition to Guru and Motani, Seshadri Narsimhan has been named Chief Business Officer (CBO) overseeing key verticals like grocery, health, fashion, and new growth initiatives. Abhimanyu Lal has been elevated to Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), and Pavan Bargal will now lead supply chain operations.
Other notable appointments include Anand Ramadurai as CBO for flights and Aseem Sachdeva as CBO for electronics, who will also manage the business finance function for commerce. The new lineup of leaders is as follows:
- Abhimanyu Lal: Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
- Amreesh Kher: Chief Business Partner (Insurance)
- Anand Ramadurai: CBO (Flights)
- Aseem Sachdeva: CBO (Electronics) and Head of Business Finance for Commerce
- Gaurav Hazrati: CBO (Credit Card, Lending, Payments, and Investment)
- Gaurav Motani: Chief Product Officer (CPO)
- Hardeep Singh Guru: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
- Janaki Naik: Chief Human Officer and Head of Admin
- Nagarajan Karuppiah: Head of AI
- Neeraj Lal: Head of Risk and Compliance
- Nikhil Asopa: Head of Commerce Operations
- Pavan Bargal: Head of Supply Chain
- Poornima Sampath: General Counsel
- Sheshadri Narasimhan: CBO (Grocery, Health, Fashion, and Growth Initiatives)
- Sheran Mehra: CBO (Hotels) and Brand Advisor
- Siddhartha Kargupta: Chief Data Officer
- Smitesh Valanju: Chief Information Security Officer
- Sudeep Nayak: Head of Engineering
- Sudhakar S: Company Secretary
- Sunandan Das: Chief Delivery and Information Officer
The reshuffle is part of a broader effort to address the high turnover of top executives and make Tata Digital more nimble and businessfocused. This restructuring means that only 20 executives will now report directly to CEO Tahilyani, down from 35 under his predecessor.
In an internal communication, Tahilyani emphasized the need for a leadership structure that fosters impact, accountability, and collaboration. He plans to work closely with the new appointees to refine their team structures and gather feedback.
This leadership change follows the recent exits of senior executives Bhanu Pathak, Shoumyan Biswas, and Gaurav Porwal, as well as former CEO Pratik Pal and fintech head Modan Saha, who have moved back to Tata Sons. The digital juggernaut also saw the departure of former president and Myntra cofounder Mukesh Bansal last year.
Despite Tata Digital’s significant investment in Tata Neu, the super app launched in April 2022 has struggled to gain traction, contributing less than 10% to the gross sales of BigBasket and 1mg. Tahilyani has outlined a strategy to finetune the loyalty program, leverage data for personalized offers, and enhance customer experience to increase user engagement and retention.
The reshuffle marks a pivotal moment for Tata Digital as it strives to solidify its position in the competitive tech landscape and realize the potential of its ambitious super app.
