According to Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias, India is a crucial aviation market for growth with several potentials, and Air India is on a strong mission to revamp its business.
Star Alliance, which has been around for over 25 years, is a global airline alliance comprised of 26 carriers, including Air India, Lufthansa, Singapore carriers, and South African Airlines.
Panagiotoulias expressed optimism about the rebirth of Air India, a long-time member of the alliance, saying the airline is on a “very strong mission” and has begun a substantial reform of its business.
“India is a critical growth market with numerous opportunities,” he told PTI in an interview this week. He further stressed that having Air India in the alliance is an important component of the global network puzzle.
His remarks come as the Air India group takes several steps to boost its operations, including placing a historic order for 470 planes in February of this year and increasing services.
Furthermore, India is one of the world’s fastest-expanding aviation markets, with domestic air passenger volume rebounding well after being badly hit by the coronavirus outbreak. Efforts are also being made to transform the country into an international hub.
Panagiotoulias stated that there has been a global recovery with varied rates since the outbreak. “I believe North America and Europe have recovered much faster than the Asia Pacific region.”
The Star Alliance CEO said that premium travel is on the rise following the epidemic.
“Premium travel has increased, particularly leisure premium travel rather than corporate premium travel.” “A lot of people want to spend money on personal experiences in a premium cabin,” he said.
Panagiotoulias, when asked if the alliance is searching for new members, stated that the alliance’s current 26 members cover the entire globe.
Panagiotoulias has over 25 years of worldwide airline and aviation expertise and has recently joined Star Alliance from Hawaiian Airlines.
According to the alliance’s website, a management company based in Frankfurt and Singapore coordinates the alliance’s initiatives and activities, which include airport co-location, digital infrastructure, frequent flyer integration, and collaborative business lounge programs.
