A newspaper workers union is urging Gannett Co. Inc. shareholders to remove the CEO from the company’s board of directors, and it is utilizing data from The Florida Times-Union and other publications in its campaign.
In a letter to stockholders, the NewsGuild-Communications Workers of America stated that Gannett Chairman and CEO Mike Reed “has failed shareholders” and urged them to vote against him at the company’s annual meeting on June 5.
According to the May 16 letter, which was included in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Gannett’s stock dropped 70% between the time of the GateHouse Media and Gannett merger in November 2019 and May 10, 2023.
