Sanjay Sharma has been appointed CFO of Air India, effective June 10

Air India’s latest move sees the appointment of Sanjay Sharma as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective from June 10. Sharma, stepping into this pivotal role, brings with him a wealth of experience spanning over three decades across corporate finance, investment banking, and real estate sectors. He succeeds Vinod Hejmadi, who is set to retire after a distinguished career of more than 30 years with Air India.

Sharma’s extensive professional background includes notable stints as the CFO at Tata Projects Ltd., and previously, at Tata Realty Infrastructure Ltd. His tenure at Deutsche Bank Group, where he served as Managing Director and Head of Equity Capital Markets, further underscores his financial acumen and leadership capabilities.

The airline expressed its confidence in Sharma’s appointment, highlighting his anticipated contribution to the ongoing transformation efforts at Air India. Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD of Air India, welcomed Sharma to the leadership team and expressed gratitude towards Vinod Hejmadi for his significant contributions to the company’s journey, particularly during its transition to private ownership under Tata Group’s control in January 2022.

Tata Group’s acquisition of Air India marked a significant milestone, positioning the conglomerate to lead the turnaround efforts of the erstwhile loss-making airline. With Sharma’s appointment, Air India aims to leverage his expertise to navigate the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities in the dynamic aviation landscape.

The aviation sector, amidst evolving market dynamics and shifting consumer preferences, demands adept financial stewardship and strategic foresight. Sharma’s appointment underscores Air India’s commitment to strengthening its financial governance and optimizing operational efficiencies as it continues its journey towards sustainable growth and profitability.

As Air India charts its course under Tata Group’s ownership, the appointment of seasoned professionals like Sharma underscores the company’s strategic focus on talent acquisition and leadership development. With his diverse background and proven track record, Sharma is poised to play a pivotal role in steering Air India towards greater resilience and competitiveness in the global aviation arena.
